Currently I'm vectorizing a car for a poster, too, so I'm impressed even more because I see all the difficulties!
I don't have a concept how to proceed and started out by tracing an almost perfect copy. I can't force myself to leave out elements because I can't decide which ones are important. So I'm putting way too much detail into it which creates the problem of progressing too slowly (it takes months already) and it's just realistic and not so nicely stylized in a vector way. I hope in a final step I'll be able to simplify it to make it look as I wish (i.e. like you managed to make yours look)...
Anyway, thank you as well for showing me how the perfect result should look like! I had it in mind exactly like this and it helps to have it visualized.
